“ARCA DEI 5ENSI” seminar: new perspectives for sustainable design

23/5/2023

On 25 May 2023, at MF Design's premises in Sedico (BL), the event “Arca dei Sensi: eco-sensory perspectives in wood design” took place, promoted by the Belluno Association of Architects in collaboration with MF Design. The seminar offered a unique opportunity for exchange among experts from various fields, with the aim of exploring the potential of wood through the five senses: sight, smell, touch, hearing and taste. Across a series of masterclasses, professionals showed how wood can be not only a sustainable material but also a vehicle for innovative sensory experiences. From acoustic design to aromatherapy, by way of creating spaces that support wellbeing, the meeting underlined the importance of integrated, sensory approaches to the use of this natural material.

Andrea Impiombato Andreani's talk set out to examine the sense of sight as an experiential element to be supported through the practice of interior design. Sight is the main sensory organ through which human beings relate to their surroundings, since most of the information about how we perceive light, form, colour and materials passes through it. It follows that by understanding and working with the way it functions, and with the strategies for maximising it in terms of cause and effect, we can derive design rules and strategies geared towards achieving comfort for people and increasing the “pleasure” they take in using a space.
