Museo Scuola Bombardieri del Re

In the eyes of the trainee bombardiers you can see the fear, the emotions and the pride that set them apart. A project made of memories, people and history, where every detail takes you back in time, to give value to every life.
Project awarded at the Iconic Awards 2020

Description
In 1916, in a rural building belonging to a noble family, the Bombardiers' School was established: an élite unit of the army where officers were trained before being sent to the front. A hundred years later, the Museo Bombardieri del Re was born in that same place, a space crafted around the story of what happened within those walls at the time, from the most private sections (the dormitories, for instance) to those devoted to training in the classroom or in the field.
The project we present is built with period materials and furnishings, focuses on the history of a glorious Corps and an institution of excellence, and contains artefacts from the most important museums, such as the “bombarda400”, unique in the world for its size, type and range. We therefore set out to tell the men and women of today the life stories of our grandparents, in a display where the arrangement of the spaces serves to heighten the narrative. The scenographic framework was conceived to generate a dynamic space built on ideas such as social relationships between individuals, understanding war as a sociocultural phenomenon, empathy towards those who came before us, and keeping memory alive.
